Sociological analysis of work in industrial society. Examination of the labor force, industrial organization, occupational roles, and careers. Teacher education course focusing on linguistic, social, and cultural factors in schooling language minority students; how factors considered for effective learning practices. Areas of concentration include primary language development, second language acquisition, evaluation, current research and innovative strategies for teachers and parents to establish effective reading habits.

Teacher education course for those working toward a California Clear Credential. Topics include techniques, policies and practices to insure equal educational opportunities for K-12 students with the variety of cultural, socioeconomic and historical backgrounds of students, faculty and staff now working in California schools. In-studio guests discuss current events, developments in educational policy and potential outcomes of a more diverse population in our schools and surrounding communities

A weekly journey through the history of jazz featuring the sounds, images and performances of the art form.

Produced in association with the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific
Tuesdays. 3:00 - 4:30PM (Begins 9/16/2008)

This course is produced in association with the Long Beach Aquarium of The Pacific. An interactive and scientific approach to the study of the Pacific Ocean, the animal and plant life dependent on this resource and our relationship with its ecology. High school students may enroll and earn 3 units of transferable college credit.

CHS 100 Chicano Studies: European Cultural and Historical Synthesis with Mike Fraga

A journey throught the history of the Mexican, Indian and European peoples who created New World experience and culture. Discussion include origins of influences that impact modern societies throughout the Western Hemisphere and specifically the United States.. An opportunity to perceive art by reviewing historical periods from the beginning of mankind to the present.
